Performance Features of the Volkswagen Golf

Through its decades of design excellence, Volkswagen has consistently provided drivers with cars that have innovative engines, compact frames and eye-catching exteriors. The Golf heads Volkswagen's compact car line, a popular model that showcases an updated interpretation of its exterior design and plenty of improvements under the hood.

The 1.4-liter engine sports a turbocharged design, delivering 184 pound-feet of torque and 147 horsepower. While the transmission is automatic, drivers can engage the Tiptronic driving mode, which allows for greater freedom in selecting the car's gear. While the Golf's engine moves smoothly through the gears, the driver can manually choose the gear they think is appropriate by shifting the gear shift or using the steering wheel-mounted paddles.

Drivers can downshift in slippery conditions, like icy or wet roads, rather than applying the brakes. If drivers prefer fuel efficiency over power, they can shift into higher gears to conserve fuel. Under regular driving conditions, the Golf gets 29 mpg around town and 37 mpg on the highway.
