Inside is an extensively redesigned interior with larger gauges and a center stack that includes Volkswagen's newest MIB II infotainment system. Tech-wise, the 2016 Volkswagen Passat arrives with the second-generation MIB II system that features standard touchscreens on all models and integrates VW Car-Net with App-Connect technology. This technology integrates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. On the safety side, the new Passat comes with new safety features, like an Automatic Post-Collision Braking System that comes standard on all models. This technology applies the brakes after a collision is detected by airbag sensors to reduce the chance of additional damage.

Currently two powertrains are available on the 2016 Volkswagen Passat. First is a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with 170 horsepower and 184 pound feet of torque. Second is a 3.6-liter VR6 engine with 280 horsepower and 258 pound feet of torque. The 1.8-liter achieves an EPA estimated highway fuel economy of 38 miles per gallon. Â
