Volkswagen Cross Coupe GTE

Volkswagen's new five-seater plugin hybrid was shown off at the North American International Auto Show. The engine on this futuristic SUV is a V6 plug-in hybrid 3.6-liter VR6 FRI engine that puts down 276 horsepower, with two electric motors adding 54 and 114 horsepower. These powerplants are connected to a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and powers all four wheels.

Outside, the Cross Coupe GTE displays Volkswagen styling cues that were based on Volkswagen's design DNA. Other exterior highlights include LED dual headlights, 10-spoke 22-inch aluminum alloy wheels, trapezoidal LED taillights, and a striking Grand Pacific Glacier blue paint job. Klaus Bischoff, chief designer at Volkswagen says, "The car makes a visual statement from every angle. Regardless of whether you imagine the Cross Coupe GTE in Manhattan, driving along the Pacific Coast Highway in California, or in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, this SUV looks upscale everywhere.

Interior highlights on the Cross Coupe GTE include a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with gesture control, bi-color semi-aniline Nappa leather seats, and rear-seat climate control. An instrumentation screen below the main touchscreen displays driving, navigation and assistance information in 1,440 x 540 pixel resolution.
